Standards of Portions

by healthy ashley on October 30, 2008

There are few things that I love more than a big bowl of crunchy cereal drenched in cool soy milk and topped with a drizzle of maple syrup (light!) and plain yogurt. Mmm!

..but why is that I always have to go back for a second one?
For as long as I can remember, I always have to go back for a second bowl!
Pizza is another food like this for me. Regardless of the size of my serving, I would feel shorted if I stopped at one. But not all foods are like this. I never make a second bowl of oatmeal or take another apple.
Do you guys have any foods like this? Foods that you must have a certain amount regardless of other factors? I’d love to hear if I’m not the only one!
by the way- I’m typing this as I eat my bowls of cereal #1 and #2! I told you!

ha! i do the SAME thing. I remember as a kid when I ate cereal I would read the box so it was always right in front of me. I always have leftover milk in my bowl so I pour more cereal to “use it up.” I find that if I put the box away I usually won’t go back. And I seriously can’t remember the last time I’ve had ONE piece of pizza…or just ONE beer :-) Don;t worry, you’re not alone.
P.s. I went to whole foods for the peanut butter. they had EVERY kind except the white chocolate. I got the maple one. My boyfriend is a HUGE maple addict so he loves it, I’m not wild about it on a sandwich, but its GREAT in my oatmeal and with apples. Yum! It would be totally addicting if it wasn’t 6 bucks a jar!!

My weakness right now are cashew nuts. I can’t just eat some, I have to eat them ALL. I need to stop doing this!

definitely always have 2 bowls of cereal. I am the same as Becky from above – the second cereal bowl is to use up leftover milk! and I dont think I have ever just had 1 slice of pizza either. I dont think it is normal to just have one. ha. with halloween around, I cant just have one fun size bag of peanut m&ms – i have to have at least TWO.

POPCORN. I eat ridiculous amounts of popcorn.

And often the same with cereal, too. Hence why I don’t usually buy cereal. I’d just eat it all in one sitting.

Also peanut butter. I mix up 2 tbsp on PB2 and then shortly thereafter I mix up another 2 tbsp of the stuff. Just eat it straight from the bowl.

…I should really get out of that habit… :)

I love cereal! Luckily, I measure out my portion (which is usually 1 C. regardless of what the box says) and take it to work so there’s no option to have more. But if I’m at home… it’s tempting.

I also love pizza and always try to limit myself to 2 pieces. Yesterday at work, there was free pizza, and somehow, the Willpower Gods were smiling on me, and I ate just one piece (cheese and mushrooms). Then I filled up on my carrots and hummus, and yogurt that I had brought to eat with my soup (that I didn’t eat since I had the pizza).

I think I’m that way about dessert, though. Even if I’m not hungry after eating a meal, I feel a need to have a sweet taste in my mouth, so I want something, even though I’m full. How crazy?!

Conquerbysmiling- I’m not alone!

Ttfn300- I do it with PB too! I really work on not buying cereal..

Becky- I always “use up the milk”.. then I add too much cereal so I have to add more milk! No white chocolate PB? Ahh! Don’t give up! Do you have any Sweetbays by you? That’s where I found mine…

Alice- Cashews? Me too. Enough said!

Lauren- Two or more is defiitely the new one!

Sagan- Popcorn! In all of its goodness, I just can’t keep my hands away!

Therunningaddict- Again, so glad to know I’m not alone!

Roobabs- I envy you! You are to be respected :)

Ahhh yeah, I would love it if you moved to Portland! You would love the concerts! All my friends only like country so I have to get my siblings to come to shows with me (and thankfully my husband likes to go too or else I would be a total loner at them)

Oh, and where is your cute day pic for the contest? you only have 2 more days!

Yes! Cereal is a big one for me… can’t do just one bowl. Pasta is another tough one!

I don’t know if this counts, but when I go out for Mexican I can eat the chips and salsa before and after my meal until I’m about to explode!

Well, I am usually the same way with cereal, but definitely with something like crackers or pretzels. Grrr.

the cereal thing is so true! i used to come home from high school (my running days, so that might’ve been why), pour massive bowls of cereal, and CRASH on the couch…carb coma.

restaurant rolls are bad too. and candy/chocolate. haha. i would never survive atkins.
