What a weekend! It was filled with family, farmers’ markets, Spring cleaning, lots of food and zero exercise! Hey, sometimes you’ve gotta go with the flow
Saturday morning I picked up some fresh beets and kale from the Winter Park Farmers’ Market. I’m still debating what to do with my 10 beets. I included the kale into my veggie-filled lunch in the form of kale chips!
To make the chips: wash kale, dry, break into pieces and spread on a pre-greased baking sheet. Spray oil on kale and sprinkle with pepper and garlic salt. Bake at 400* until crispy. (Maybe 15 or 20 minutes?) Delicious! I had my chips with sweet potato fries, roasted carrots and a Dr. Praeger’s veggie burger.
I also loaded up on fruit this weekend. There’s nothing like frozen mango!
This weekend also included lots of banana bread muffins. I think these and Snobby Joes are the only reasons I bought Veganomicon! I top mine with Smart Balance.
Right around the time I got my Canon XSi, David bought the Canon 7D. Since then all he wants to do is play with our cameras. Last night we visited the park I discovered on a long run to get a few shots.
While David was in Photography World I talked to a fisherman on the dock. He educated me on the types of fish, when the best time to catch them is and the different ways to catch them.
He was so nice, but I was so grossed out watching him pierce this alive, beautiful fish and then toss it in a bucket to be his dinner. Eeek!
Because no post would be complete without a puppy pic, here;s one of Dixie laying on top of Sabrina. Poor baby!
What is your favorite thing to buy from a farmers’ market?

That puppy picture is adorable! I really want another dog!!!!
I LOVE farmer's markets. I love buying interesting vegetables you don't normally see at the supermarket (purple carrots etc).
That pizza looks absolutely fantastic! And I'm loving the Dr. Praeger's burger…I've been craving one all day and plan on having one for dinner tonight! I love getting fresh produce at the farmer's market. It just tastes better than the stuff from the grocery store!
I love fresh beets! So amazing and better than canned. My favorite method of cooking these would be wrap them in foil and bake for about an hour, then peel and slice. Easy, painless and tastes wonderful!!
I haven't been the the farmers market in months, (it's definitely a seasonal thing here) but I can't wait to start again. I love buying anything local. I'm convinced it tastes better and I feel so much better buying it.
Glad you had a great weekend Ashley!
I don't eat much cheese, but if I do it's almost always from a farmers market or other small-time farmer. They just make it so much better.
OMG!! Our dogs are practically identical in how they look..and Kenna is alwaaaays sitting ON dakota..too funny!
GORGEOUS PICS!!! a relaxing weekend is what life is all about!!
LOVE your puppies! mango is soooo darn good…i like buying it frozen cuz it's a major pain to cut! I hope you have a great week chica! xoxo!
Great pictures!! The puppy one is so cute! I am sad to say I've never been to a Farmer's Market
Don't think they exist around here.
I used to do fish surveys – I miss fish. That was a crappie that he caught.
i love buying breads at farmers markets; always fresh!
and i think berries are my next favorite! or tomatoes!
I LOVE the Veganomicon. Banana bread equals love, I'm certain of it.
Also, beets make for really tasty chips when they're dehydrated! Or they're good chopped and baked in the oven.

Thank you so much for posting about how to make kale chips! I've been seeing them all over the blog world, but I had no idea how to make them! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Lovin the pics
My favorite thing to buy is any kind of fresh fruit that is in season..or sometimes flowers. I will need to try the kale chips ASAP
Here is the frozen tundra of Des Moines, Iowa, we have a really great summer farmers market, but for the life of me, I cannot find the fresh produce. I have NO problems finding the fresh flowers and the baked goods and the breakfast burritos, but I can't find the strawberries, apples, etc. Drive me nutso! I'm going to try to go again this summer, and hopefully, I will have better luck.
What great pictures! i love the pupper picture, and want that pizza. Now.
I like the unusual seasonal fruits and veggies that can be found at farmer's markets. Nothing beats a locally grown apple in my opinion
I love your list! Especially the one about saying "No" sometimes! I have the hardest time saying no but it is important to not be a doormat. Gorgeous pics! Can't wait to read more!
I love apples from the market, they taste so fresh and perfect!
