Like You Want to Feel Right Now

The other day Ryan told me something in conversation that really stood out to me. She said we need to eat based on the way we want to feel right now. Basically, we can’t judge everything based on its calories, whether or not we want to lose weight, etc. That will make us crazy! We have to eat to be out healthiest, happiest right now.

I usually stick pretty closely to this, but I’ve been fighting with a few extra pounds and my eating patterns have suffered. I’m thinking about those extra pounds too much. So yesterday I took Ryan’s words to heart and just ate what would make me feel great!

All I’ve been eating for breakfasts are English muffins with AB so I switched it up with naner oats topped with cinnamon, flax and AB. Throughout the day I had a veggie-packed salad with hummus and balsamic dressing, a homemade larabar (these things keep me full!!) and an orange and apple.

I also had several unpictured handfuls of mixed nuts at work that left my belly upset. My body always seems sensitive to particular nuts :(   Anyone else?

On my drive home from work I tried a Kardea Nutrition Bar is chai spice. I can’t even begin to describe how delicious this was! I’ll elaborate later :)

IMG_1929 For dinner I had Sweet Shepherd’s Pie with steamed carrots and an unpictured strawberry fruit pop :) I was pooped from the long week so David, the dogs and I hung out in front of the computer with hulu and headed to bed at 10:00 p.m. Watch out- we’re pretty crazy!

Do you eat based on a goal, based on how you want your body to feel now or do you not really think about it?

That's great advice! Currently I eat thinking about my goal. I'm 4 pounds away from my goal weight and I'm fixated on it. The thing is, I think eating to get to my goal is actually keeping me from it. I'm so fixated on the end that I'm not enjoying the journey. I'm going to take your words of wisdom to heart.

This is a great message! I always try to "Be my best" or that's my new motto ever since I changed how I eat back in September. Almost like "eat with the result in mind."

When I eat I think about 2 things. No I think about tons of things and usually voice them out loud and my kids are telling me I read too much about nutrition. But what goes through my mind are: What do I want my body to get from this? and What do I want to get from my body in the long run?
I consider what I've eaten already that day, food groups or nutrients that might be missing, how close to nature the food is, what the reprocussions to my butt size might be… A lot goes through my head when I eat. But What I eat changes my body, and I only have one of those for the rest of my life, so I should try to make it the best it can be – eh?
Just forget about the rum cake from last night…that doesn't count ;-P

That's great advice! Something I'm going to try to start keeping in mind. It's so easy to serve a huge slice of the office cake, hoping the sugar will perk you up (and knowing full well it won't last) or eat that giant serving of pasta the boy serves you, even though you know you don't like that overly fully belly! I need to start a vision board or something with such helpful ideas! (And race inspirations!!)
