The What and Why of Different Diets

This post on diets and relationships sparked some great discussion today! Make sure to check it out and add your own thoughts in case you missed it. I also added my response toward the end.

The discussion has me thinking about how we all have such different diets and reasons behind them. For some added perspective I’ll be showcasing small pieces written by different people with different diets and their own personal reasons for the way they eat and the way they live. It should be really interesting!!

I rushed around like a mad woman today. A full day of work, a late dinner with Ryan and a ton of little to-do’s and I somehow forget to photograph all my food. Oh well, at least I got the good stuff :)

IMG_2055 Ryan and I now work together at lululemon. And Whole Foods is still just a few miles down the road. Yes, it is a dangerous equation in every way! Tonight we decided to grab dinner at Whole Foods after a day or working together. I got a fantastic plate that included my beloved yucca fries and a massaged avocado kale salad. I loved the salad so much that I’m recreating it in my kitchen tonight!

This morning began with a banana and an English muffin with homemade almond butter.

Lunch was at work- the last of my Sweet Shepherd’s Pie. I froze two servings when I made the recipe to enjoy later. This dish was amazing and I will definitely make it again soon!

Are you interested in reading about other’s diets and their personal reasons behind them?

I do. I wrote a post called "The Non-Diet" but it's not a diet, just more of a choice to eat organic as much as possible. Just like you, I too have my own views upon my non-diet. It's a CHOICE.

I am so excited to read about why people eat the way they do!

Yes! I'm also really interested in hearing from people who DON'T think a lot about the food they put in their mouths. We hear a lot from food bloggers who are highly conscious of their eating habits, but I'm more curious about people who don't give it a lot of thought on the day to day. Basically, what they would say if they were asked to reflect on something that is just intution-guided.

Does remotely make any sense? Hah

SO excited to read about others reasons for why they eat the way they choose to. I wrote a little today about my choice for organic. It is funny because today, one of my best friends and I were talking on the phone and we live pretty far from each other but she had no idea that I was a vegetarian…so surprising!

Oh, I'm definitely interested. I know for some people it may be negative because of comparisons and whatnot but I honestly think it's interesting and sometimes it inspires me to try new things. :)

I'm interested also. I've always been a very open-minded person so I love learning about different people, diets, cultures, religions … everything. Even if I don't understand or necessarily agree with them.

I'm kind of learning the same thing myself: that people are just as passionate about their diet as I am about mine.

I wrote a post on deprivation and thought that I would at least get ONE comment agreeing with me, but the two that I did get, disagreed. So, I DEFINITELY have more to learn, and sometimes I can be a bit judgemental. I'm all for expaning horizons. :)

I'm looking forward to the series!

OK, on my list of things to try – Yucca fries and Kale chips (which both sound So good). :) That lunch looks delicious!

I JUST watched Food inc for the first time last night (I know…) and have to say that it was a "tipping point" (a la Caitlin. and Malcolm). There are things you "know", but don't truly accept until seen like that. As an RD, I've always been interested in others' diets, mostly as a way to stay educated and unbiased and be able to level with anyone. But, even more so now.

I'm definitely interested! It's always cool to see what works for people and how – everyone is so different and I think I could learn a lot and get ideas from others!

I just wanted to share with you that I have recently embraced the CRAP out of hummus.

I crave it. All the time.

I didn't know that was possible.

Your posts and comments make me feel better about my curiousity on others diets! I've learned a lot from the blogs, but I feel that is pretty different from what we sometimes encounter in our own lives…especially with friends or loved ones.
I've done a lot of thought about how and why I dieted to lose the 80pounds and keep it off, but before then I gave so little thought to food. I can't imagine going back to that place!

Hello there Ashley ,
First I would like to thank you for the plethora of information you have on training on your blog!
I ran across you when my husband & I were pouring over the Croom Fools Run Video.
He ran the 50 & is now training me for the 15 .I know that I am in "good hands",but I would appreciate
if you could help me out with a personal question?

I am in week 2 of my training & have been extremely flatulent .Is this normal ?,& most important how do I get rid of this !It is so embarrassing .I find myself trying to avoid him after my runs….please help.

look forward to your reply,

Deanne

I think it's interesting what works for different people and why they eat things.

I also think it's interesting that it works for them. Everyone is so different and I know even I do better on different diets during different times of stress/exercise/health phases of my life.

Best,
Katherine
