My Thanksgiving was about family, food and Tofurky!

I always say going vegan doesn’t mean giving up great food. It does, however, mean giving up some traditions- like turkey and stuffing on Thanksgiving. I haven’t had the traditional Thanksgiving meal in ten years and I’ve come to look at Thanksgiving dinner as a “whatever side dishes don’t have animal products” meal. I was excited received a coupon to try out the Tofurky Vegetarian Feast and couldn’t believe how much it meant to have a traditional meal to look forward to— that was vegan!

The frozen box comes with the stuffed Tofurky, gravy, wishbones and an Amy’s organic, vegan chocolate cake!

It was fun to pull apart wishbones that didn’t come from a bird’s intestines!

Everything in the box was already made and just required some defrosting, preparing and baking. It was pretty simple.

Maybe we should call this the blogger’s Thanksgiving because I also tried Tasteful Selection’s Purple Passion and Sunrise Medley Potatoes, which were sent to me to review.

First off, how cute are these potatoes!? I combined the bags and boiled for a few minutes. One plus: these babies cook FAST!

While the potatoes cooked I sauteed an onion in olive oil with Frontier Pepper Fusion. It is black peppercorns with chipotle. I immediately oooh-ed and ahhh-ed at the aroma of this spice!

The spice was incredible and really flavorful. The one thing I’d change is the little plastic lid. It is so thin that it almost got thrown out a few times!

Along with a little garlic I baked the potatoes (halved) and onions.

I enjoyed a salad, veggies, potatoes and the stuffed Tofurky. I only photographed plate #1 but I can guarantee I had more Tofurky!
The Tofurky was SO GOOD! I had family try bites of it and they couldn’t believe how genuine it tasted. Comments of its yummy flavor and texture filled the kitchen. I usually stick with foods with less ingredients, but I will certainly buy a Tofurky again. It allowed me to fit in with the rest of the turkey-themed table and it was unbelievably tasty.
The potatoes were soft and flavorful. I loved the slightly nutty flavor and how easy they were to cook and eat.
I had Amy’s cake, too, but forgot to photograph it. Yeah, it was tasty

Ooooh! I want to try the Tofurkey meal next year. It was definitely difficult picking my way through a non-vegan Thanksgiving meal this year.
Next year will require more advanced planning…
Glad you enjoyed your day!

WOW Ashley, this looks delicious! Great photos and I love how the table is decorated. I'm not vegan, but I'd be interested in trying out that kit because it sounds really good!
I am so glad you got to have an actual thanks giving this year! I feel like Tofurkey would be easy to make, less cook time!
Wow, it sure takes a lot of planning to be vegan! Glad you found something you would enjoy! It looks good!
My favorite dish is always the vinegar cucumbers with onions and tomatoes. So delicious.
hey girlie!!
i'm loving your vegan feast! I have always wanted to try Tofurkey…but the texture of fake meats usually grosses me, so i tend to stick to the bean/legume protein form. But your post has me wanting to give it a try! I hope you have an awesome weekend!
xoxo!
Thanks for the review- I am excited to try that next year for my first official vegan Thanksgiving (this year was just vegetarian)!
I've had the Quorn turkey roast for the past several Thanksgiving and Christmases – its so good and the best part is having a turkey sandwich the next day like everyone else! My hosts are always nice enough to make some stuffing outside the bird for me so I get to enjoy that too. I think my favorite side dish was mashed butternut squash my mom made – so simple but delicious. Of course my favorite FOOD was her pumpkin pecan pie – amazing. Glad you had a great Thanksgiving!
I wonder if the tofurky has gotten better over all these years…I haven't had one in over 5 years and I mean, it wasn't awful but I have yet to buy it again. Seems like more people are liking them now a days though!
glad you were able to enjoy a vegan thanksgiving!
Awesome pictures Ashley!!

The Tofurkey looks genuinely tasty — I'm sure it was great! What is it made of exactly??
In second year law school my roommate and a couple of our friends decided to cook Thanksgiving dinner but left it until THAT day to get a turkey. Lo and behold there were no fresh turkeys at the store – but there was TOFURKEY! hahaha
We ended up buying already-stuffed-real-meat-turkey-in-a-box. It was classic student style Thanksgiving but it was goooood.
You don't have to give up stuffing! My mom has made vegetarian stuffing for years. Full of nuts, celery, onion and fresh cranberries in addition to challah crumbs.
My favorite dish this year was the soup mom made. Broccoli, leek, carrot, onion, rice… I came home and made it again for my stuffy nose yesterday.
What a gorgeous and elegant table setting!!!
I love your potato medley, so colorful!
And the dining room appears very posh, love the decor!
You have such a beautiful family – what a great picture!
that tofurkey looks totally legit – awesome! Glad you liked it.
This year my fave was probably this broccoli/rice casserole. Awesome.
I used to buy those tofurkey in a box too! Isn't the wishbone rad?? My mom made a tofurkey this year and it was awesome! We just downed the leftovers in the form of "tofurkey pot pie".
Wish I could get my family to try Tofurkey!! Awesome to hear it tasted good.
And your dining room is BEAUTIFUL.
