Hiking Looking Glass Rock

by healthy ashley on January 30, 2011

My skin got thicker this weekend thanks to some very misunderstood, mean comments. But at the end of the day I think about what I want my future daughter to read. I want messages of self-acceptance to build her up and less messages to tear her down. Life isn’t perfect, but I promise to share my own journey in the most honest way I know. Thank you for your encouraging comments. The end. :)

Jen and I have been chatting via email since I moved to Asheville. She lives in the area too and we have lots in common! Yesterday we finally got together to explore the area. Jen took us to hike up to Looking Glass Rock. It is a steep (almost) three mile hike each way. (I did my first Asheville hike a few weeks ago here.)

I brought Norman along for his first hike. He was a good boy (as always), although he tends to be spoiled and lazy! Most of the hike he refused to walk and had me carry him like a baby. He did seem to really enjoy it when he actually got down!IMG_4018.JPG
I couldn’t believe how much the hike wore me out! Then again I’m sure lugging this small load most of the way had something to do with it!

The view from Looking Glass Rock was more than worth the hike up there.

Jen and I ate some food and chatted before making the trek back down. It was fun :) IMG_4021.JPG
Thanks Jen for sharing your photos!

WOW…crazy stuff, but bravo for posting your opinions..allowing discourse and responding in a calm and respectful manner. She has an opinion, as do you, and all of us reading!! We wouldn’t be bloggers or readers if we didn’t have opinions, want to share them, or cared what others thought! Also, everyone brings their personal experience to the table- so you can’t read someone else’s words without inserting your own meanings and implications into it. So for me, coming from a past history of pain and struggles with food…I completely agree with you %1000. Hope you still had a good wknd ash despite the dramz! :D

How exciting to take your new pup for a hike! And those views are so beautiful, oh my gosh!!!! North Carolina is such a gorgeous state, I use to hike Grandfather mountain in Boone. You should make your way over that way, worth it :)

I have been reading your blog for a few months now and truly enjoy it! The pictures you posted of the mountains in North Carolina are GORGEOUS! I would love to see more of the landscape that makes up your new surroundings. I’m thinking of running an Ultra out there… maybe at the end of 2011 or beginning of 2012. Funny enough, I found your blog when I was looking up reviews for the Crooms 50k. I’ll be running it this April. ;)
I would love if you would check out my blog and let me know what you think. I just started it back in October.

Haha! Aw, I love the pic when Norman is craning his head back. The view looks beautiful! I’ll have to remember the name of it so I can take Jason when we go to the mountains again ;)

Your hike looks so fun! I don’t live superclose to any good hiking areas, but your pictures make me want to go discover some new ones. Beautiful. Your puppy cracked me up by wanting to be carried.
