Local-loving Asheville. Another day, another exploration of a beautiful city.

Rosetta’s fueled our exploring. Yes, AGAIN. Sadly I wasn’t very satisfied with my salad. The PB tofu and balsamic dressing were amazing, but the greens were flat and wilting, far from the fresh, energizing salad I’ve had in the past. I accepted that I can’t win them all and enjoyed some nachos with my salad!

We sat by a window garden with fresh sunlight coming in.

After Rosetta’s we hit the streets. I was surprised that with all of our exploring there were still so many shops we’ve never been in!

There’s a saying in Asheville: “Keep Asheville Weird.” Our weirdness shows in many areas. For instance, check out this random art on a construction site!

Shoes boarded to a wood barrier? Never seen that before!

If you were dissatisfied with your meal at a restaurant, would you say something?

You should work for the Asheville chamber of commerce or something- you make me want to visit with every post! It seems like a very laid-back, crunchy college town vibe which I love. Kind of reminds of Laramie, Wyoming where my BFF is from- I went to visit last summer and for a town in the middle of cattle country, they had some fabulous vegetarian restaurants and funky coffee shops/cafes.
Personally I wouldn’t say anything, but my family and friends would for me. I don’t ask them too, they just do. I try to just let it roll most of the time.
Asheville looks like such a fun place!
I am obsessed with those pictures, they are awesome!
I tend to not say anything if I am dissatisfied- I’m too quiet!
Asheville looks so beautiful from all of your posts!
The “Keep (insert city here) Weird” campaign originally started in Austin.
If there was actually something wrong with my meal or I asked for it without something and they put it on there, I’d say something. If I just didn’t like it, I wouldn’t.
Hi Ashley,
I’ve been an Asheville (well technically Hendersonville) resident for a whopping 5 days now. I love it so far! I’m originally from Ohio, so it’s very different for my husband and me, but we find the focus on supporting local businesses very refreshing.
I’m a meat-eater, but we tried Laughing Seed on our house hunting trip, and it was fabulous. I love that I get to try so many new and creative dishes!
Can’t wait to see what else you find in Asheville!
Looks like fun!! I love exploring “my” city too, and it’s crazy how you can keep finding new neat places when you think you’ve been everywhere.
Have a great Monday!
Since you seem to be a regular I would definitely say something. It doesn’t sound like it will keep you from future visits but I would let them know.
Very cool! I’ve only heard good things about Asheville and would love to visit someday. I’m trying to get better about speaking up, especially in restaurants – you’re a paying customer and if you do it in a polite and respectful way, I don’t think it’s a problem.
Since the lettuce is the main part of the meal I would complain. But do so in a very polite and nice way. If it were something small and I could eat around it I probably would suck it up.
I love discovering the neat & and interesting things that are local – it’s like a staycation!
That is so funny, I live in Santa Cruz, California and the saying here is also “Keep Santa Cruz Weird”.
Is Asheville a college town? I feel like most bohemian towns (Santa Cruz included) tend to be near a college town or at least populated by a younger generation. At any rate.. Asheville looks like a fun place to live!
I don’t think I would say anything… but that’s just me being a coward. I like to think that maybe it’s because the kitchen staff are having a bad day, and everyone makes mistakes… but this is only if the place has been consistently amazing in the past! If they keep disappointing you, perhaps then you should say something! Or find a new perfect place
I would definitely say something. I look at it this way, the restaurant can’t fix something if they don’t know it’s wrong. I figure that they would much rather have me say something, be able to fix it and keep a customer, than have me be unsatisfied and never come back. I am always polite, and have never had an issue with mentioning if something was not up to par. Mind you, you shouldn’t complain over every little thing, or demand a free meal or something to “make it up” to you.
It depends on where I am dining and to what extent I’m dissatisfied, usually!
If it’s a very expensive meal and there’s some serious flaws, yes, but if it’s a local joint & I’m paying 5$ for it, probably not. Case by case situation, usually, but I don’t have any problem speaking up.
Have you tried Early Girl Cafe yet? I think it’s on Wall St. Amazing strawberry almond pancakes! I still think about them after our trip 2 years ago. Cute place, mostly organic and local.
