Holy soreness! I tried my first CrossFit workout at Blue Ridge CrossFit last night. Several of my friends have been doing CrossFit for years but for some reason I avoided it. I stuck with my cozy yoga and triathlon training.
At 5:30 p.m. I was in a big, open CrossFit gym picking out bars and learning new workouts with the Asheville lululemon ladies.
We did three sets of a run, 50 Ab Mat sit-ups and 50 pushups… topped off with 20 squats with a bar and weights with a push at the top. Please excuse my CrossFit newbie language
Overall it was a really fun, really encouraging and intense workout. I loved the loud encouragement from the instructor to push me farther than I’d go on my own. Have you tried CrossFit?
My whole body is sore today but feels pretty good- as long as you don’t ask me to use my arms too much

I took advantage of some free time today and headed to the Blue Ridge Parkway to log some solid miles on my bike. This was the first good, long ride since I moved to Asheville. It was hilly and awesome!

The Good: I hit 38 mph going downhill on the bike! The Bad: I lost the remote to my car (the keys were locked in the car) and it took 1.5 hours of waiting for Richard, looking all over for the remote and finally prying open my door and using my antenna to unlock the door. Good glory it was an adventure.

What new workout do you want to try?

CrossFit is great! I just started as well. But I’m surprises your CF gym didn’t require a foundations class first. I had 6 intro classes where I learned proper form for each of the main lifts. It helped a lot, I feel safer knowing my form is correct when lifting heavier weights. Make sure you’re safe!
Maybe I will have to take a foundations class? The instructor taught us form for these exercises before we began.

I really want to try pole dancing and zumba. I love anything that involves dancing, it doesn’t feel like a workout it’s just fun.
I hadn’t heard of CrossFit until February. I joined 10 weeks ago and I’ve been going a minimum of 3x per week! I always update my website weekly of my workouts and how much I’ve lifted, and how much stronger I’m getting in such a SHORT period of time! It’s an incredible workout. Love that you started doing it!!!
Oh my gosh, you poor thing! Locking the keys in the car, I mean.
I’ve never tried Crossfit! Sounds like something for you to love, though.

I did a bootcamp last year that was based off CrossFit. It was pretty cool.

I’d love to try CrossFit. I wonder if they even have it around here? Hmmmm….
Locking your keys in the car is no fun!

I really love CrossFit. It’s a love/hate type thing. You suffer the whole time and then are glad you did it. The weights have made me stronger in the mind and body. And I love how every day is different, mixed with body weight movements, heavy weights, fast movements, etc.
Here’s my “how to crossfit” post I mentioned via Twitter. http://www.marcigilbert.com/2010/09/14/how-to-crossfit/
Glad you’re enjoying it!
I am relearning to like my bike…and have plans for some long runs this summer. Could you tell me some of your long run survival strategies? The longest I’ve ever gone is 36 miles, but I’d like to do a metric century by myself this summer…

Are you talking about riding or running? For both my keys are good music, solid nutrition and something to think about (my last long run was all about wedding planning). I also envision over and over how good I’ll feel when it’s over!

I actually am looking forward to get to fitness-centered Asheville to get into a yoga practice & take some group ex classes that are not offered in the great white north of New England.

I’m totally addicted to Crossfit. : ) I’ve been doing it for about a year and half and I absolutely love it. I’m so glad you started!!
Also – I think the move you’re describing is a thruster (front squat into a push-press). Keep at it! The results are a-mazing. But you’ll soon be in a constant state of sore. : )

I’ve been wanting to get into cross fit but I just can’t seem to pull the plug! I, too, am very comfortable with yoga and my various running and other cardio endeavors. Glad you had success with it and I feel you on the terminology – I definitely don’t get the cross fit ‘lingo’ either.
