Needles

Today I lost the job I love.

Tomorrow I will watch my friends compete in the Half Ironman I’m registered and trained for.

The day after tomorrow is my birthday.

Right now this sucks. I miss my life. I miss my passions. I miss being able to walk. I miss not being in pain. I miss being independent. I miss following my heart and doing what made me happy.

I cried brushing my teeth. I cried shlepping my walker down the hallway. I cried during dinner.IMG_9566.JPG

In other news Evan from Downtown Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture stopped by the house to see how he could help. He placed about 15 needles on the right side of my body and all over my head. He also set me up with a rigorous regimen of herbs and combination homeopathic formulas.

I told Evan everything about the concussion, the pelvis breaks, my symptoms since and all the meds I’m on. With care he brought these two small bottles and a huge bag with 15 blended herbs. I’ll keep you posted on how they help!

Braxton and Charlie knew I needed extra loving today. <3

Do you use acupuncture, herbs or homeopathic formulas? What is your opinion of them compared to general medicine?

Edited to add: lululemon letting me go wasn’t easy for either end. As much as it hurts I understand the need for their decision. There are still questions around what will happen with lululemon. The hope is that I can be rehired in the new year, but there is no guarantee. My team continues to support me. Obviously, I’ll keep you guys updated.

I hope Lululemon is reading -they are a huge corporation
with a gazillion dollars from healthy readers and bloggers.
It may be a tiny store and you may have been a new part-timer,
but I think head office should help in hiring a short -term
replacement for you and promising to hold on to your spot for when
you are recovered,
It’s pretty sh**ty of a huge company like that to not do at least that, especially as they promote themselves as about being about peace and love and community and say they wish working at Lululemon to be a
wonderful experience for all.
I am not trying to get you in trouble with them, but I am here to say I
am NOT impressed Lululemon. You have a member of your staff
who was in an ACCIDENT and cannot work for several months.
I think the main office should help out this small store.
Lululemon has to watch that they are not seen as hypocrytical.

Wishing you a steady recovery and the ability to find gratitude in being
alive and knowing your health and independence will return with time, and that your condition is not a chronic disease for life, although is does suck and must be very upsetting to you (as it would be to me!)
I have been getting a lot of inspiration from Susan these days from
The Great Balancing Act and how she is dealing with her cancer .

I will never, never purchase anything from them and I hope they lose a lot of business from all your friends.

My dad has used acupuncture to treat a trapped nerve in his arm and he found that it worked really well. He ended up having surgery to free the nerve, and also used acupuncture during his recovery from that surgery. I think there are a lot of benefits in it, but I also don’t think it’s a magical cure-all. I’ve used herbal remedies for some things, mostly to manage head colds, coughs and menstrual cramps, and I’ve found them to work just as well as OTC medication. I think there is a lot of value in herbal remedies, but there is also a balance between traditional and modern, herbals and medications. Sometimes a combination of things works best. My suggestion is to keep lines of communication open between the various folks helping you on your journey to healing.

I’m sorry to hear about your job. Losing a job is never easy, even if you know and understand the reasons behind the decision. And you also have to sit and listen to race reports from friends you were supposed to be racing the Half Ironman with. It’s ok to have bad days, down days, days when you want to rail at the whole world. Tomorrow you’ll wake up and it will be a new day, a day that brings you one day closer to being healed again. :) Be gentle with yourself.

I am so sorry, Ashley. You deserve a good cry, you’ve been through hell. It’s hard to see now, but what you are going through is only going to make you a stronger and better person. I believe that God has a plan for all of us, it’s just so hard to understand while you’re in the middle of it all.

Ashley I’m so sorry. It’s going to be ok. I understand the tears and sadness and appreciate your honesty. You will get through this, you will emerge a stronger and wiser woman, you are going through a huge metamorphisis and remember. . .it’s always darkest before the dawn.

You are so amazing, Ashley. I cannot even express to you how inspirational you’ve been to me throughout my marathon training.

I am so sorry to hear about lululemon. You are obviously a huge asset to the company, and I imagine they’ll take you back as soon as they can. I just started working at the outlet in Orlando, and I can understand why you love the company so much.

Big hugs and well wishes!

Oh, Ashley! BIG HUGS! This is just a small step in the journey of life. Right now your body needs to heal and that’s what you should be focusing on. Push all the negative energy aside and remember what an amazing, talented person you are. You WILL recover from this, you WILL be stronger than ever, and YOU will live to see another day. Sending lots of hugs and kisses your way!

As a fellow/former-lulu gal, I hated to read that part :( I hope you’re able to go back when you’re ready to, though!

Sending love your way today, I hope you have the energy and strength to do what you want to today – remember that what you’re capable of today may be different than two weeks ago, but you’re progressing nonetheless and one year from now, you’ll have an incredible journey to look back on!

I’m so sorry for all the trouble you’re having these days…accident, lost job, no half – ironman! Despite all of that, I hope you’re having a great birthday today! I’m sure it’s not the same as a ‘healthy’ birthday, but I’m sure glad you’re alive for your birthday (2 thumbs up for helmets!) :D

First time commenting but I wanted to say I have been so touched by your story and I’m sending you positive, healing thoughts. I’m sorry it has been such a tough day for you.

I have tried accupuncture before and it really helped with my headaches / sinus problems.

I remember reading this when it happened. I was recently in an accident (not anywhere as tough as yours), but alas ended up with 7 stitches in my left knee, weeks before my favorite marathon. I read this for comfort/support, and I just wanted to say I continue to appreciate your story and rise above it while I go through my own injury.
