Ode to a Good Husband

1. Thank you for putting your life on hold to be with me in the hospital every moment possible. I know that chair wasn’t best for a good night’s rest.

2. Thank you for not laughing at me when I had a catheter in and couldn’t control my farts. You never flinched and that must have been really hard.

3. Thank you for being who I needed you to be during those first days. Sometimes I needed you to just laugh with me, sometimes I needed you to calm me down and sometimes I just needed you to pretend I didn’t smell so terrible.

4. Thank you for telling me my healing was priority when we were told we couldn’t have sex for at least six weeks. I know we were both thinking other things.

5. Thank you for cleaning up after me when I accidentally peed on the floor a little.

6. Thank you for taking on all the chores that I’m unable to do and also happen to really stink: sweeping, scoping cat poop and taking out the trash.

7. Thank you for listening to me say the same thing for the 8th time and pretending nothing was wrong. The concussion plus all the meds made me a little crazy.

8. Thank you for embracing being a newlywed husband with a wife in a walker. You won Husband of the Year when you pimped out my walker for my birthday.

9. Thank you for letting me cry all. the. time. And in the very next moment let me be overly excited that I can finally sit on the floor by myself. You let me feel what I need to feel and do what I need to do. You never judge me or tell me how I should feel or act.

10. Thank you for cheering me on when I say I’m going to run a marathon in January because you know how incredibly important having that to look forward is to me.

Woot, go Robert! This reminds me of my ex-boss and her hubby. She had a really hard pregnancy (but the baby was fine!) and her hubby had to do everything for her for about 4 months. They told me the story as they laughed about it together. I was so impressed. I feel like once you go through something like that, and the other person cares for you so well, your trust level goes up 3490934 percent…no matter where it was before.

Your wedding really couldn’t have come at a better time because you will be healed by love. Now, does he have a brother? A cousin? A really similar friend? j/k. Take care and be strong, beautiful.

He did score some serious husband of the year points with the pimped out birthday walker. That was really cool, and doesn’t happen after you’ve been married for over 10 years. He might end up setting your expectations too high for the future husband of the year award candidates, it’s going to be tough to top that one.

Isn’t it awesome, just the most incredible feeling, to have a real, loving, caring man as a life partner?!?!

Robert, you are an incredible guy. Thank you for stepping up and being the right kind of man for your woman.

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. I love how you put the truth in your post (i.e. thanking him for cleaning up your pee), rather than just write some flowery post about true love and committment. You have captured the essence of real, true love.
