Cheering the Princesses

Last week the flu took me out of the game. The thought of blogging or working or exercising in any form was exhausting. The good news is that I didn’t die and am now back to good health (plus a nose blow here and there).

I’m jumping back into my ultra training with a long run in the morning. I ran two miles yesterday (first workout post-flu) and five miles today. I’m hoping to rock it out!

Last weekend I volunteered with my lululemon team to pass out water to the Disney Princess Half Marathon runners. It was a blast! I’ve only spectated one race and this was my first time volunteering for a race. Cheering on runners is a blast! They are so inspirational. Every runner is out there for their own worthy reason… I am pretty sure I was tearing up with emotion most of the race.

I will definitely volunteer for races again. I loved the runner’s energy! Tip: Volunteering for Disney gets you a free pass into the parks!

Guess who I saw?! side note: isn’t this photo awesome?

Congrats Princesses!

What’s the best cheer sign you’ve ever seen at a race?

I ran a half marathon last weekend and a guy drove by with a sign that said “This is an encouraging sign!” Loved it. It made me laugh. :-)

I wish I had known you were going to be at one of the stops! I would have loved to see you!

The best sign I’ve seen was actually at Princess – just as we were entering Epcot for the finish, a woman in a motorized wheelchair was holding a sign that said “Hello Stranger – I am proud of you!”

It was so neat to see a woman that didn’t (necessarily) know anyone in the race encouraging all of us and telling us she was proud. Made me stand up a little straighter knowing I was out there running while she was one the sidelines in a wheelchair still cheering for us!

Ahh I didn’t know you were at that stop! I must have run right by you :) I saw 2 lululemon girls around mile 9 (I think) with lululemon signs. That made me smile. I love how lulu supports the community so much!

The best sign was “You trained longer than Kim Kardashian’s marriage!”. I saw that woman twice on the princess course and it cracked me up every time. I agree with Theresa above me – the woman with the “Hello stranger, I’m proud of you sign” made me tear up and was my second favorite sign!

Thanks for volunteering! The volunteers were seriously one of my favorite aspects of the race!

I may be a touch slow these days, but I have no idea who that is.

I’ve always heard volunteering is a blast! I want drive a sag vehicle for a century ride helping people fix flats. If only I knew how to fix a flat, or had a vehicle big enough to take people and bikes at the same time from where they broke down to where the mechanic is.

Lulu signs are always my favorite! But another funny one I saw was a little boy with a sign “Worst Parade Ever” and someone at mile 2 of a 1/2 that said “You can relax, the Kenyan already won”

At the dc marathon last year there was a sign that said “if it were easy I’d be doing it”

The 2009 Princess Half was my first half marathon and will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s awesome that you volunteered. The water stations are so important to the runners.
