The past few days since the Croom 50k have been awesome. I felt so great after the race that Monday I hopped back into my regular schedule with CrossFit and power yoga. I’m not sure why I wasn’t sore at all. Of course my first thought is that I didn’t push myself enough, but I also think lots of yoga, juices and clean eating had something to do with it.
Yesterday I took a hot flow class before work and met up with some coworkers for my first TRX class after work. We visited Orange Ave. Gym, which is awesomely less than a mile from my house.
TRX is suspension training that combines strength, balance, flexibility and core stability. Most of the class was on the TRX but we also utilized some resistance bands.

Class began with a 100 warmup: 25 jumping jacks, 25 pushups, 25 air squats and 25 ring rows/pull-ups with the TRX. The rest of the 60-minute class was intervals on the TRX mixed with band work. It was fast-paced with short breaks in-between sets. We ended the class with a short run and some light stretching.
I think my background in CrossFit made me skeptical of TRX. CrossFit focuses on functional movement (ie I used my deadlift skills when moving our couch) and a lot on form. I felt there was less focus on form and more focus on banging out reps. The atmosphere was loud and fast. The moves really challenged my core more than anything- my abs feel it today!
Overall the TRX was a challenging, fun class that I would love to do again.
Have you tried TRX Suspension Training? How did you like it?

I keep seeing that gym and have been thinking about trying it out. I really need some strength training classes to help me figure out what I’m doing and get my form right!
TRX looks tough! You’ve got me wanting to try cross-fit but I am so intimidated by lifting big heavy things!

I am new to TRX and have added it to my gym routine. I absolutely love it!
I do TRX twice a week for over a year now! Obviously, it depends on the instructor but ours is always reminding of us our form and walks around correcting us as needed.
I love the huge array of moves! I’ve NEVER been stronger
Encouraging post. You are trying so hard on a hard job like TRX. Keep it up man. Thanks for sharing the experience

I LOVE TRX!! But form is EVERYTHING!! Sounds like you need an instructor who is willing to correct bad form and slow down the pace of the class to ensure you’re all getting the most out of it. That’s exactly why I won’t do Crossfit because I’m afraid of getting injured from doing something so fast paced with improper form. And I can’t believe you weren’t sore, you’re a monster.. in the cutest way possible!
