Workout Suicide

by healthy ashley on May 15, 2012

Three mile run, work, hot power yoga, a 1000 meter swim and a CrossFit workout from hell to round the day off. I never planned my Tuesday to look like this: I needed to run so I ran. I haven’t been to yoga in a while so I went. And I really need more swim time. CrossFit was just to see Richard coach the class :)

My next 140.6 is at the end of October. My weakest sport is swim so now is the time I really need to build up my base. I joined a 24 Hour Fitness last week just to make good use out of their pool. I did 1000 meters of remembering what swimming laps feels like!

On my drive to CrossFit I received some sad news. I didn’t have time to process it- much less let out a good cry- because I had to rush into the WOD. The workout was so intense, so hard and so long. Basically it was the worst for a foggy mind. I turned my sadness into frustration over the workout. I let out my fair share of grunts and I doubt my face looked pleasant.

Meet tonight’s nightmare:

Tonight’s WOD:

5 Rounds:

10 Wall Ball

10 Burpee

5 Rounds:

15 Push Press

10 Ball Slam

5 Rounds:

5 Mr. Spectaculars

10 Squat Jump

Then:

1000m 20lb. Ball Chase

Mr. Spectacular: Walk hands out to a push-up, walk hands back to feet, squat clean thruster with dumbbells.

Ball Chase: Two-person team: one throws a 20 pound D-ball while the other sprints to the ball and throws it. Aka hell.

Overall I am glad I did the workout. But I am pooped!

How do you react to bad news? Do you prefer to work out your feelings or do you prefer to skip the workout?

Few other exercises can boast this range of impact. Furthermore suicides can be run on grass, sand or pavement and thus do not rely on the limiting factor of a track that other running programs suggest. Running suicides is a great way to get in a diverse workout in under 15 minutes..

I tend to dive into chocolate to handle bad news. Then run more.

holy cow – that sounds like one intense WOD – way to power through it!

really sorry to hear that you recently received bad news – hope everything is okay!

when i’ve got a lot of stress or bad news to process, i absolutely want to workout – i prefer to run (or something solitary) to work through my feelings alone. but since knee surgery, i’ve been trying to find new ways to process – it’s not easy!

When I found out my grandmother had cancer, the first thing I did was go out for a run. I wasn’t running for physical purposes, just to clear my head and make myself do SOMETHING rather than sit on the couch and absorb the news.

I prefer to feel my feelings, but if I had a workout scheduled I’d keep it. When I started running I was angry and hurt at some things. I found it made be run faster, but also made me get injured. I run a little slower now, but am safer, and happier.

It just depends. My triathlon coach just passed away a few weeks ago. Sometimes I feel like working out and at times, I just wanted to sit and cry on the couch. It was good to get out on the road with my team too.

That was a tough workout. But after that you must have been feeling really fit. I will try out a routine like that one of these coming days.
