ZICO: Juice of Winners

I remember when I first fell in love with ZICO coconut water. I had the flu and was facing a marathon less than a week away. I felt dehydrated and weak so I stocked up at Whole Foods: herbal teas, healing vitamins and ZICO coconut water. The potassium and electrolytes had me feeling much better. I never got to 100% for the race, but I did finish it feeling hydrated and oh so much more alive. Since that race I’ve used ZICO coconut water any time I need to be at the top of my game or when I want a natural, refreshing treat. ZICO has become a part of my training ritual even more so than foam rolling and icing. And what’s better on a hot day than chilled coconut water? I do live in Florida after all.

ZICO sent me samples of four flavors: natural, pineapple, mango and chocolate. Yes- chocolate. Don’t judge it until you try it. ZICO chocolate tastes straight up like Yoohoo. In a very delicious, very natural way. Amazingly delicious. My review? I loved all of the flavors. Of course. Just 60+ calories* for a tasty, natural drink that helps me feel and perform better? It’s heaven-sent. I’ve never been a fan of sports drinks (so processed- and what’s with the HFCS?) or juices (I like to chew my fruit), but coconut water is something I can feel good about. (*the chocolate is higher)

More than tasting great and making me feel good, here’s why ZICO rocks (from their website): ZICO contains the five electrolytes that give your body everything it needs to stay hydrated and perform at your best. One ZICO has more potassium than a banana ñ 15 times more than most sports drinks ñ to prevent cramping. Drink ZICO before or during a workout for the natural energy you need for optimal performance. After a workout, ZICO replenishes and rehydrates you to speed recovery.

How I use my ZICO: Half a bottle the night before a long workout. Mixed in a water bottle for cycling or running. It digests really easily. Blended in a fruit smoothie. With a little coconut rum. Yum. :) Maybe not pre-workout! Straight from the fridge on the way out the door after a workout. So convenient. And trust me on the chocolate one. It’s so good. Want to win a $100 gift card and a case of ZICO? To celebrate ZICO’s awesomeness, you have a chance to win one of two $100 gift cards and cases of ZICO Coconut Water!

Oh, I have to try ZICO coconut water! I love all things coconut, and I’ve drank coconut juice for a long time but it’s high calories.
