I love the paleo ideals (no gluten, grains, added sugar, dairy; high protein and vegetables) and feel and look better when I follow them. My belly stops hurting, I lose the bloat and I move faster. I’ve wanted to commit to really giving it a try and now is my chance! My box CrossFit Firebase is hosting a 60 day paleo challenge to kick off the new year.
Most of our members have signed up for 60 days paleo and we’re all encouraging each other along the way. We have all been weighed in and had all of our measurements recorded. Monday, January 7th is the official start date. All Monday WODs will also be a benchmark workout so we can do it again at the end of the challenge to compare our progress.
I. am. excited.
I gained seven pounds over the holidays and it shows in my workouts, energy and general mood. My 8% fat husband has agreed to take on the challenge too, so I’m looking forward to that extra motivation and accountability at home.

Part of our shopping trip to stock up for the challenge. I realize that the snap peas, almond milk and peanut larabars can be considered un-Paleo. Maybe we won’t buy them next time, but as long as it’s not a cupcake, I’m not going to worry about it.

We got two new fun products I’m excited to try: Coconut Secret Raw Coconut Aminos and gluten-free Sky Valley Sriracha Sauce.
I still don’t eat meat so I’ll be consuming eggs, protein powder, vegetables and nuts for protein. With a little work I’ll prove vegetarian paleo is possible. Good thing I l-o-v-e eggs!
The box’s challenge officially begins January 7th but I, along with many other members, am starting today, January 1st. The first day of the new year is too good to not start this.
Here is a good guide to the paleo diet.
Are you kicking off the new year with any big challenge or change?

I was curious how paleo as a veggie would work. The no beans thing throws me for a loop! Glad I can watch someone else try it!
I’m fairly certain that No Meat Athlete did a few blog posts on being Paleo vegan.

My friend, Susan, wrote that about being a paleo vegetarian for 8 weeks. I think I should do the same!

I was kind of wondering how Paleo Vegan was going to work. They seem to put so much emphasis on meat it’s always thrown me off. Is it basically just a whole foods vegan approach? because that’s what I’m doing now.
