I used to have a tradition at the end of every year. I’d take stock of my life and set five to 10 goals I wanted to accomplish in the next year.

In 2010 I ran several marathons (including two ultra marathons), completed an Ironman, increased my yoga practice, found my career passions with lululemon, left a dead relationship, found love, got engaged, and moved to North Carolina. I challenged myself on every level, left my comfort zone several times and found new levels of satisfaction and happiness

The biggest change came when I found lululemon in January. I learned about open communication and effective goal setting. Through setting specific, measurable goals for one, five and 10 years down the road I began to uncover what was really important to me and the list of things I wanted to do in life. Now, instead of a jotted down list of what I want to accomplish in the next 12 months, I continually update a set list of intentional goals.

Below is what I’m working on. Here’s how you can set intentional goals, too!

I love that you know exactly what you want and aren’t afraid of going for it! You rock!

Excellent goals, Ashley! I really like this approach. (I’m especially amused by how everything has a first-of-the-month target date, save for the 100 mile ultra. As if you’re already registered for something…) I know you don’t need luck to achieve these, so instead I’ll wish you to have fun achieving them!

I love this! I, too, am a goal-setting girl. “New Years Resolutions” don’t do it for me- why wait for a new year to come around to set goals for yourself?! You are a driven person Ashley, and I am SURE that you will meet all of your goals :) PS. I want to run the grand canyon too!!

I volunteer to be one of your five new friends to cook for :)

I love your goals! And I love the idea of short and long term goal-setting. I’m a life coach, and when I went through the program it was the first time I really, really started setting goals, and now I love it! I love writing them down, I love planning my action steps, and I love seeing what I’ve accomplished. You go, Ashley!

The Dublin Marathon which takes place in October (the last Monday of the month) is a great race. I have done it twice and there is something special about it – Amazing support and a nice flat race.
You know you want to!

I love this! Great goals.

I’ve seen this goal layout on lululemon’s site (actually I got a handout with my most recent purchase). I have a hard time thinking that far ahead though when I don’t even know where my husband and I will be living after he finishes grad school this fall!

I love that you put these out there, you are very brave for sharing your personal goals :)

I like these a lot. very cool!

You better get the international travel out of the way before the first kid though. Takes a long time to get a passport for a baby.

I love the framework for 1 year, 5 year and 10 year goals. Yours are diverse!

If you want to add Japan to your int’l travel list by 2014, look us up, we have an open door policy! (ps, come in July/August and hike Mt Fuji!)

Nice list of goals.
Were you able to achieve your goals meant to be fulfilled by 2011?

Sarra July 3, 2013 at 8:49 pm

I love that you look into the future and think of what you’d like to see. I’m sure your goals have changed a lot in two years – I would love to see a follow-up post on these! Heck, I’d like to see any post from you lately ;)
